Established in October of 2008, this fund is intended to benefit those who have dire winter and summer heating and cooling emergencies. The fund has received contributions from The Montgomery County Foundation, Inc. itself; the area agency for aging, Aging and Adult Services (through a bequest); The United Way of Southeastern PA; as well as numerous individuals. We are grateful for the compassion that continues to be expressed for those who may face these emergencies.
Another group that stands out is the Keith Valley Middle School that is part of the Hatboro Horsham School District. The 7th graders recently held an event in January, 2009 that was outstanding. There were videos and skits to set up the cause of the elderly unable to afford heat. There were talent acts, ranging from magic, to wonderful singing, dancing, and instrumentals by talented 7th graders. There were baskets of donated items raffled, food and beverages. Most of all there was a camaraderie that filled the auditorium and spilled out into the halls. The students, the families and businesses who donated items, the teachers who gave of their time and effort, all worked together to make the evening an outstanding success and to contribute $3,213.60 to the Emergency Heating and Cooling Fund. What an achievement for the students. Youth philanthropy at its best!
We are still seeking donations to build this fund. For the last five years at least, there have not been enough dollars to meet the need. Now that a Fund has been established here at the Foundation, we hope that it will continue to grow and that we will be able to meet more needs. To contribute, please send donations to The Montgomery County Foundation, Inc., 2 West Lafayette Street, Suite 120, Norristown, Pa. 19401 and memo the Emergency Heating Fund.
